REACH stands for The Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals.
The title might suggest the regulation is relevant only to parties directly involved with the chemical industry. However, chemicals are vital to the retail sector, and are present in virtually every product sold by retailers. Any organisation, regardless of their industry sector, that places finished goods on the EU market is responsible for ensuring REACH compliance.
Suppliers of finished goods in the EU have legal obligations regarding the communication to customers and consumers of the hazardous components of those finished goods.
Many items sold by retailers to the consumer will fall into one of the categories of finished goods or chemicals.
Over the last two years Bartoline have been working tirelessly to ensure that all our products are fully compliant with REACH so that they may be sold legally on the retail market.
To ensure that retailers can be confident that all Bartoline supplied products are fully compliant with REACH, it is our policy to keep our customers fully informed about our REACH introduction plans.
Bartoline has communicated with all its raw material suppliers to ensure that all substances used have been pre-registered, so that the end products can still be legally placed on the market whilst the REACH process develops.
The next stage is to ensure that all the uses of our end products are communicated to our raw materials suppliers so that this can be registered as a use when the substances are fully registered.
There will be no need for any of Bartoline’s customers to take any further action with regards to REACH compliance.
As REACH develops, the format of the product hazard labels will change and to lessen the possibility that there are no out of date labels within retail outlets, we will be introducing these in a timely manner.
The format of Safety Data Sheets more commonly known as COSHH Sheets will change and we will be revising these and will progressively introduce the necessary changes so that these can be passed on by retailers to their customers.
With this in mind retailers can be confident that all Bartoline supplied products will be fully compliant with REACH and that we do not foresee there will be any problems in the maintenance of the supply of its products.
If you have any further questions with regards how we intend to implement the requirements of REACH then please do not hesitate to contact our REACH coordinator, either at our main address or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org
