Bartoline Limited, first established in 1876, is Europe’s leading manufacturer of decorating sundries for the home improvement industry. Products include White Spirit and paint solvents, fillers, adhesives, sealants, sugar soaps, paint strippers, garden wood protectors, paraffin, BBQ lighting fluid and lantern oils, etc.
Bartoline acquired Modus Products, a wallcovering adhesive and filler manufacturer, in 1999 which enabled significant expansion into a wider array of decorating sundries supporting significant growth. This growth was furthered with a major investment in a £5m liquid manufacturing plant resulting in the safest and most modern factory in Europe for packing solvents and associated products.
New premises were also acquired providing additional capacity underpinning further expansion resulting in a fivefold increase in sales within the UK. The increase in capacity has also allowed expansion for exports which are developing at an even faster rate.
Products are manufactured and distributed extensively through retail, wholesale and trade outlets, throughout the United Kingdom and an ever-expanding number of countries overseas.

Customer’s private label requirements represent a significant part of the company’s business, with most of the UK’s leading multiple DIY retailers being supplied, as well as supermarkets, trade outlets, wholesalers, etc. A service is provided which can include everything from the original design concept to finished product. Toll manufacturing is also a growing specialty with many blue-chip companies taking advantage of the UK manufacturing base and superior facilities on offer. New products are always being developed in-house. New improved Clean Spirit, a lower environmental impact and safer alternative to White Spirt and other traditional paint solvents was launched in 2022, along with Paint Predator paint and varnish stripper and the 1876 professional range of adhesive, fillers and sealants targeting the trade customer.
